Shirodhara - How to Prepare

Developed in India thousands of years ago, shirodhara originally was a part of

a sacred internal and external detoxification and healing ritual called pancha karma

that was reserved exclusively for the royalty in India. Today, shirodhara is used

separately as a deep rejuvenation treatment usually only available at very high-end,

luxury spas.

It is a beautiful, powerful, ancient therapy that works on the body, mind and spirit.

As such, there are a few things you need to do to prepare yourself for it:

1) Before you come

  • no heavy eating

  • no full stomach

  • no alcohol

If you have a full stomach or have had any alcohol before the treatment,

we cannot do the treatment.

It will be harmful rather than beneficial.

2) Bring with you

- an old hat or scarf or bandana or head covering

You will be given a turban for your hair, but you may want to have something covering the turban for your way home.

3) Phones must be on airplane mode for the entire session

Please make whatever arrangements are necessary for you to be able to put your phone on airplane mode for the entire session.

4) Only plan light activity for the rest of the day. Even better: no activity

It is recommended that you have only light activities planned after this treatment. Even better would be to have nothing planned for the rest of the day. It’s a powerful treatment, but its benefits can be undone if you immediately force yourself back into any stressful or demanding activity or social interaction afterwards.

5) Allow yourself the time to go at your own pace after the treatment

When planning your schedule, allow for yourself to be able to take extra time before you get back in your car or drive home. Allow yourself NOT to be in a rush after the treatment. Give yourself this space to have the time to enjoy the experience fully.

6) If you wear contact lenses, you will be asked to take them out

Although every effort is made to avoid this, it is possible that some of the oil will get in your eyes. If you have contact lenses in, this could become uncomfortable.

There is no concern about the oil getting in the eyes except for the possible discomfort of contact lenses. There is an Ayurvedic eye healing treatment where this same oil is directly administered to the eyes.

Thank you for getting yourself ready for this amazing experience!

We look forward to seeing you soon.

I certify that I have read, understood and complied with the instructions on how to prepare for Shirodhara.
